AC/Tone Control Switch for 37-620
#1

I'm repairing a Philco 37-620 with a missing combined AC/tone control switch. I would like to know if the Philco 37-620 uses the same AC/tone control switch as the Philco 37-630. Does anyone have a schematic and parts list for the 37-630? (I couldn't locate a free one on the web.) My 37-620 uses a three-position switch, Part Number 42-1182.

Thanks,

Allen

Allen, hi. I have 37-650 with AC/Tone control, three position (thou one position = off). Part #42-1184 PL

Basically, the only difference between the 37-620 and 37-630 is the addition of a shadowmeter on the 37-630. Off-on-tone switch, band coverage, etc. are the same.

The 37-650 switch is slightly different but would probably work.

PL and Ron:

Thanks for the replies. It appears the tone control for 37-650 has one additional position than 37-620. Knowing the 37-620 and 37-630 use the same switch may help me locate one from a scraped radio.

I located a three position switch from a 37-623 (battery powered) with three DC connections (A, B, C voltages). However, I'm concerned the AC voltage/current will overload this switch. Any thoughts?

PL, I hope your 37-650 is in nice shape. I really like the style of that radio. My next Philco fix/purchase?

Thanks, Allen

Allen, the 37-650 is languising on the repair bench. I haven't got back to it since I completely replaced all resistors and caps. She runs and hums a bit but no reception. All voltages check out. I know the problem is on the RF sub-chassis and have been delaying going back in there. If the switch is capable of handling 120 DC it will handle 120 AC. DC harder on the switches as it tends to arc when making contact, more so than AC. PL

I'm restoring a Philco Model 37-620 and it's missing the volume/tone control part number 42-1182. Anyone have any ideas?

I'd put a pot w/a switch and be done with it. That will give you a variable tone control.

Aye. And make the capacitor you settle on a high voltage >1000 volt type and you're done.
