Philco 610 Radiobar restoration Chronicle
#1

I bought this radiobar recently and WOW it is a mess...
Defects:
1. Rotten feet
2. Destroyed lid.. Fell apart in my hand...
3. 95% covered in mold
4. No chassis
5. No speaker
6. Rusty chrome Icon_sad
7. Many separations in cabinet and dried out glue...

Pluses
1. Feet can be easily reproduced
2. I have all the lid pieces and the mirror.
3. Mold destroyer and sunlight Icon_lol
4. Found a 610 chassis and 8" speaker in my store room in a bad cabinet
5. Chrome should clean up real good but I may have it redone...
6. It cleaned up amazingly and I can glue all the separations...

I started by thoroughly washing the radio in the sun with mask and goggles.. Warm water and a wet towel.. Took an hour and 5 rinses... I am flattening the lid sides now and drying out the sheets that separated.

I found the chassis for it in a 610 bullet cabinet that is a real mess.. The speaker cone is bad but I would not be using it anyway...
The main issue is that someone has worked on it and the sheet he included in the cabinet is not encouraging.. Icon_lol
They even taped off the plug!  Icon_rolleyes

I will be looking for a better chassis if anyone has one and a good correct size speaker.. 8"? 10"? 12"?

Some day, and that day may never come, I will call upon you to do a service for me. But until that day, accept this justice as a gift

Ok Question..
The speaker for this... Is it only an 8"?? I am going my looking at the speaker hole in the cabinet...
Someone offered me a 37-650 chassis and speaker but I am not sure if it will fit....

Any ideas?

What size is the hole of the speaker mounting board in the cabinet?

You can always enlarge it if necessary (or, preferably, cut another speaker mounting board and keep the original in case someone wants to go back to original)...
