Some day, and that day may never come, I will call upon you to do a service for me. But until that day, accept this justice as a gift mafiamen2

You mean this one?
http://philcoradio.com/gallery/1937a.htm#am When my pals were reading comic books I was down in the basement in my dad's workshop. Perusing his Sam's Photofoacts Vol 1-50 admiring the old set and trying to figure out what all those squiggly meant. Circa 1966 Now I think I've got! Terry

That's the one I was thinking it might be.

I've got to get busy and tidy up my little shack as a certain member that just had a root canal is threatening to come over for a visit the end of the week. Maybe some others too. Recently, there were two listed for sale on eBay, but as is often the case, they were "pick up only." Since it would have been a 1000 mile drive for me for either, I opted out. I'm reluctant to drive a 1000 miles to go see my own children, much less pick up a $200+ radio. Thank you for your response. Garrett

There's a good possibility it could be a 37-640MX.
http://philcoradio.com/gallery/1937a.htm#am . . . . . . . So I'm late to the party. Pardon me. It could also be a 37-641MX -- Ron Ramirez Ferdinand IN

It sports a tuned rf amp stage (for better sensitivity), Push/pull 6F6's in the audio output stage (higher output and less distortion than sets w/a single 6F6 or 42 tube), shadowmeter tuning, coverage from the BC band to 22mc or so. A step up from the 610-630 chassised sets. THe negatives are it's a 1937 model set. Philco in '37 and 38 used a design that has a chassis mounted in the main chassis to contain the rf parts like the band switch, rf and mixer coils and such. This makes these a bit more difficult to service because some of the components are difficult to get to and replace with out removing this sub chassis. THe shadowmeter on all Philc set is suspect. It uses a lot of very fine magnet wire and it can go bad from old age. You can repair them but is a bit of a job. Other than these things generally service is pretty average and is a good playing and sounding sets to enjoy the BC station and lots of good coverage on the SW bands to hear far away places with strange sounding names. This one has the MX cabinet (Modern Console). Something Philco started about 1933 or so. The MX's are the console and the MB's are the table set. I like the different design. I know I have too much time on my hand but it beats cleaning the house. When my pals were reading comic books I was down in the basement in my dad's workshop. Thanks, Terry, for the info. I always enjoy members sharing their encyclopedic knowledge with me.
The mechanical issues notwithstanding, I really liked the art deco look of that particular radio, especially the checkerboard top. kind regards GArrett Meadows

$200 is way high for a middle range console on fleabay, especially if it's pick up only. Normally stuff like that doesn't crack the $100 mark, if it gets any bids at all, especially as a pick up only. If you really want one see if they will take an offer.

For what it's worth, I forgot to mention that it could also be a 37-630MX - a mid-season 1937 model that was put together after Philco discontinued the 37-640.

I'm glad I found this phorum because it will keep a sitting duck like me from getting taken advantage of on "flea-bay" (excellent descriptor!) I'm going to watch Craig's List and try to develop some contacts here in my search for a similar console Philco radio from someone who won't take me to the cleaners. kind regards Garrett Meadows
