Philco 39-12 all restored!
#1

Well I decided to dig in to this Philco close and play record player / radio. The speaker transformer had broken off in shipping and the wires had snapped so I repaired that and it still didn't work. I noticed that the 41 tube was not lit and found a break in the tube from the broken speaker hitting it. Once that was replaced it came to life. I recapped the chassis and put in one of my rebuilt cartridges (SAMS Icon_twisted ). The record is the test record so it doesn't sound very good but she plays real nice and the radio plays exceptionally well with a short antenna...

Oh and did you know that early Philco record players had Philco Phonograph labeled caps?
I have never seen one in any Philco record player I restored...

I got a Philco 41 RP-2 off ARF and it came today. I tore it down and rebuilt it in 2 or so hours.
Here is her playing through an unfinished radio...

I had to quit that idea Mark.
It went over $250.00 in costs and it worked zero times.
I found a company that would cut them but it was $5000.00 for 1000 slices. Thats 500 carts if you dont break a single one. I am using Donor carts. I bought a bunch from Gary at VM.
It is a super secret that no one will share for some reason but they are Ronette 500 carts.
