Back to Philco 42-365
#1

After more than a month I took my 42-365 out and tried once again to get it working. This is interesting. I set my signal generator to 1400 kc and touched the oscillator (XXL) grid and I get a station. Touching the antenna with the signal generator, same thing. I get a strong station. This is the only way that I get any reception. The lead from the generator has a 0.1 mfd capacitor attached to it. So I tried the same capacitor on an antenna wire and of course that doesn't work. Anyone know what's going on here?

I do! I do!
The sg is providing local  oscillator signal that the XXL isn't. So the received signal is going to be at 940 or so.

When my pals were reading comic books
I was down in the basement in my dad's
workshop. Perusing his Sam's Photofoacts
Vol 1-50 admiring the old set and trying to
figure out what all those squiggly meant.

Now I think I've got!

Ok I kind of thought that had something to do with it. And I receive the station at 980. So what do I do? None of my coils are open.

Moisture absorption in the set's oscillator coil?

Hmm...I picked this set up a couple of months ago and it has never worked. I've been through so much with it. I wonder if moisture is the case if it would be a long lasting effect? Would this be a situation where i could dry it out?
