Philco 37-38B replacement output transformer
#1

Hello all,

I wanted to ask those more knowledgeable than I if this transformer would be a suitable replacement?

I was hoping to find something cheaper, but so far, no luck.

Thanks!

Here are the specs on the original output transformer (might help with suggestions):

Part No. 32-7639
1-1J6G as Class B Triode
Imp @ 400Hz: 17,000 ohms
Primary (DC): 680 ohms

That's going to be a bit hard to find as the primary current is fairly high (40ma). The 1J6 is a new version of the older 19 dual power triode tube which can deliver 2w of audio. That's a lot for a farm set most will make a couple hundred mws.
A Stancor A-3335 or A-3880
Thordarson T-22S47 or T22S74

They don't have the specs listed for the one linked to like they do with the others. Honestly though, since it's a battery radio I think I would see about getting a used one or finding a cheaper substitute, battery radios, though interesting, aren't worth enough to warrant spending $40 on an output transformer. Have you tried Edcor for a transformer, or looked on the AES site?

Terry,
I will look for those or any substitute that will work.

Arran....I know this set isn't valuable and quite frankly I already have more in it than I could ever get out of it. But, this set belonged to my great grandparents. So I'm fixing it regardless of cost.

Any and all help finding a replacement or suitable substitute is greatly appreciated!!

Hi Jon,
I'd grab one of these:  https://www.tubesandmore.com/products/tr...output-8-w
Price is right and it's just a little low in impedance (9K vs 10K). RCA sez PtoP is 10k not 17 that Philco uses
I was looking over at ptotp

Terry,

Thank you very much for the info and the link. I had posted a similar question on the Antique radio forum and someone also suggested this transformer.

My only concern is the Philco specs provided in Nathans post a few comments above shows an impedance of 17,000 ohm. Is this correct?
