Skip,
Looks like we both got a rare bird! I just picked this up today. Have you restored yours yet? Any Idea what the doors on the sides are for? Any info or pics you can provide from yours would be greatly appreciated!

Rare indeed! Player AND with good acoustics. And good radio.

Wow! I knew these existed, but never saw one before!
It looks to use the General Industries "slasher" changer made in Elyria Ohio.
The doors on the sides would be for record storage. Probably tilt out about 6 inches and have slots for record albums.
Amazing!

This thread starts to remind me the M&M commercial "They do exist!"

If the doors were for record storage, there's no evidence of such either on the door, or inside, looking in from the back on my unit. Is it possible removing the doors is to affect the acoustics of the cabinet?

That is odd...
An example of this would be an unusual Zenith I have which has fold out doors with record slots.

It would seems strange to use them to alter acoustics, but I cannot see what other function they would have.
I guess it doesn't matter, you have a wonderful rare Philco!

Steve raises a good point. The Philco 500X and 501X (1935 model console radio-phonographs using the 16 chassis) also had fold-out doors with record slots, similar to the Zenith to which Steve posted the link to a photo.
So, Jeff...you're saying that the doors on your 116PX are removable, and have no slots? What is inside? Are they storage areas or just open into the speaker compartment?

Ron, they are just open to the speaker compartment. I'll post a pic soon. Stay tuned.

Here's a snapshot of mine from the back. As you can see, there is no evidence of any shelving or other structure to hold records.

I feel like we are hijacking Skip's original post, so I will start a new thread documenting mine. I'll have tons more pics and details there. I should get to it tonight. I have to clean up and head out to work.

It would be very helpful if Skip would jump in here and tell us if his is like yours, Jeff, or if his has the divider(s) and/or storage compartments.
Or maybe he no longer has his 116PX?
SKIP?!?
