Claude,

That radio looks very much like a UK Philco model 261. Here's mine:

[Image: http://www.philcoradio.com/images/phorum/uk261.jpg]

Although, I'm not sure if my 261 is deep enough to accommodate a phonograph (gramophone)? I'll look at it the first chance I get and will measure its depth.

In addition, if that was a 261 at one time, it not only has been modified to add a phonograph. It looks like it was modified to add a completely different radio chassis.

Hello Ron

Thanks for so quick reply

Sure your 261 model looks like quite the model proposed in France , and it is sure the " french " one was modified , changing the chassis for a ne one , completly different I suppose  i  asked the vendor a photo of the new  chassis

https://www.leboncoin.fr/collection/1128...tm?ca=19_s

But is it possible the 264 one was the 261 model ith a phono on top ?

We have on radiomuseum site the page model of the 264 , from UK , but without any photo Icon_confused

http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/philco_264_2.html

we have not on radiomuseum site , the 261 UK one , only the american one

http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/philco_261.html

it exists also a mezzo grand one

Model 261 is not a USA model. It is a UK model. The chassis was made in the USA exclusively for export to UK. The cabinet was, as far as I know, made in the UK (Perivale, Greenford, Middlesex).

The 261 pictured on that website is the early version of the 261. The one I have (which I had sent to me from the UK) is a late version.

I also noticed that, while my late version 261 looks very much like the radio you initially posted a picture of, there are subtle differences. Chiefly in the grille cutouts.

Yes, I would likewise be curious to see more photos of the model for sale.

As said , I asked the vendor other photos . I am waiting answer ...

The vendor lives near Paris , and I in Normandy , near Rouen , 100km from Paris  . a  little bit far from to go and see  by myself .

But it seems the top cover could be original

Got it.

Here's the difference in national approaches to distances Icon_lol
100km here is considered a brisk drive Icon_smile I did that both ways after work before going to bed to pick up a radio.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

Sam

Some day, and that day may never come, I will call upon you to do a service for me. But until that day, accept this justice as a gift

I say it is original with the Phono, The radio was taken out and a different chassis was inserted. Everything looks good except for the pine cut out escutcheon moulding and the 4 uncentered knobs...

It is exceptionally well made with all that inlay...

Great find..
