Need help re: restoration of a 41-100
#1

Hello,

I recently acquired a 41-100 tabletop model that has some major finish issues and I'm hoping to get some advice/recommendations on several fronts.

First off, here's a shot of how she looks now. The veneer on the stripped side was peeling so badly I just pulled the rest of it off.

So here are my questions. Any help is much appreciated.

1. Is that a walnut veneer?
2. There appears to be some water damage on the thin layer of wood beneath. Should I try to replace that as well?
3. What kind of paint would be best to use on the black areas?
4. The inlay banding (?) is intact except for a smallish section on the front/top left. However, the veneer beneath is rippling. If I strip everything, is it possible to recreate the banding later?
5. Any tips on finding or recreating the missing black section on the bottom left?

Guess that's more than enough for now. Icon_smile

Hmmm... too many questions at once? A fair amount of views but no replies....

Just knowing the kind of black paint to use on these kinds of restorations would be a big step in the right direction.

Thanks again for any help or advice offered...

No paint. 2-4 coats of sprayed black toning lacquer. NOT polyurethane, lacquer.

Thanks Chuck. Much appreciated.

Can you tell if that looks like walnut veneer to you?

Sorry sensibull, I'm not a cabinet "guru."

Others will chime in here.
