Philco 20A - Electronic Restoration Questions
#31

Icon_thumbup
good questions and a good thread!

The replacement caps from Sal just came in today! Earlier than I had expected Icon_smile

Is there a particular order in which they should be replaced? I'd like to test the radio after each replacement.
Should I start with the big cap block?
Begin with the smaller ones and move my way up to the larger ones?

#26 is a good place to start.

When my pals were reading comic books
I was down in the basement in my dad's
workshop. Perusing his Sam's Photofoacts
Vol 1-50 admiring the old set and trying to
figure out what all those squiggly meant.

Now I think I've got!

If testing means powering up, I'd replace them all first.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

I check ALL,,,NEW,,,,capacitors and resistors,,,,(Before installing),,,,tubes first ,,coils,,transformers

I wouldn't bother powering up and testing after you replace each capacitor or you'll possibly fry something and probably be at this for months. It's safe to assume every capacitor in there except the one mica will need replacement. If you want to try and keep some of the old resistors, you can de-solder one lead and check with your mulitmeter. I'd be surprised if most or all of those didn't need replacement too.
