Philco hippo Speaker voice coil help
#1

I'm needing help finding out what size voice coil my Philco 46-420 needs. It's a 4x6 speaker.

Thanks

The simple answer is to remove the felt or paper cap at the center of the spkr. You can carefully use an Exacto knife cut it out starting at the center and working your way outward. You don't want to cut into the vc or cone just the cap. It's just cemented along it's outside edge.
Personally I would just replace it w/a 4 or 5" square or round pm spkr. My understanding is that the 4x6 cones are difficult to find these days and sending one out to have it done is going to be 20-$30. Just my 2c.

Voice coil i bad?
This is rare in small radios. I mean, there's always oxidation.....
Are you sure?

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

I think he's trying to find a suitale cone. A lot of the modern cones have rather large openings for the vc.
