Was the escutcheon on Model 19B Polished?
#1

Hello, I have a Philco Model 19B with a cabinet that is in nearly perfect original condition. The escrutcheon is a dull brass. I was wondering if the escrutcheon was originally polished or if it would have been unpolished. It seems that most collectors prefer to not have it polished, but is this original?

Thanks

A rule of collecting: never remove patina.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

I seem to recall that Doug Houston (RIP) once told me that those escutcheons were never highly polished brass, but were always dark even when new.

Thank all of you very much. I like the unpolished look but was always curious how it looked when new.

Those bright golden one you see sometimes...just look wrong.

If that is the case a bit of toned lacquer will darken it up.

Now I think I've got!

If someone has polished an escutcheon to bright shine, you can darken it again, using gun bluing.

Or, as Terry said, with some Extra Dark Walnut toner. Icon_smile
