record won't spin but no idea what i'm doing! (pics)
#1

over the weekend i bought this sideboard mostly to use as a tv shelf. the perks was that it's really for the radio and record player that it came with. the radio works well and the record player turns on and i can hear sound if i touch the needle but the actual record won't spin. i'm not sure if i was doing something wrong or if there was something wrong with it. i opened it up to look underneath and there weren't any cut wires or anything like that. but then again, i have absolutely NO clue about what i'm doing.
there was a small part in there that had a tiny little "wheel" looking thing that was spinning poorly. it would go faster and then slow down etc. then there was a bigger wheel that i assume makes the record spin and that wasn't moving at all.
i really want it to work but i have absolutely no idea what i would need to do to fix it. any help at all would be totally appreciated!. i can't really find the model online and i'm not even sure i have the correct numbers.
at the very back of the actual stand it said
philco model 1880 MB
then i looked underneath the record player and it said philco VM 35
not sure if that helps.
i have included a bunch of pictures.

Over time the grease on phonos will harden and gum up, causing everything to slow or stop. Clean off the old grease and relubricate. I use sewing machine grease, it comes in a squeze bottle with a long tip that can reach into the tight spaces. You can find it at any craft store. Also check the rubber wheel(s) and make sure they are not slipping. The rubber can harden or even crack which will make them loose traction, I've also had wheels that have stuck to the platter. Clean the wheels, spindles and platter and carefully try to spin them by hand to make sure they can spin freely.

does it matter that i found out it's a 'direct drive turntable' and not the belt one? i thought maybe the belt would be the problem but found out when looking at it it was different than what i found online.
i took some pictures.

this is what's underneath. the big wheel won't budge if i try to move it but it will move slightly (and then not at all) when i spin the top. there is what i assume is a motor off to the side that's not visible in the pictures that hardly spins as well.

That is a Voice of Music (VM) record changer. The folks at this excellent site will be happy to help you get it working.
