*Solved Minerva Tropic Master model w117 "early"-crackle pop & no vol ****SOLVED
#46

after meaning towards the antenna or towards the power supply?
#47

task me on a couple more steps

btw lifting the 220k R on pin 5 of the 6sq7 makes it go quiet
#48

im back,
#49

I hadta et too. 'member, I'm from Greenbriar Co.

If lifting pin 5 results in silence, issue is in 6SK7(s) or 6SA7. Probably one of the IF cans as I mentioned.

I'll have to form a plan of attack.

sorry,, typo
lifting the items on pin **6^^ results in silence
#51

OK probably easiest is remove the 6SK7 nearest 6SQ7, use jumper on pins 2 & 7 to maintain heater string. Reconnect set, if noise stops reinstall tube and do same for 6SA7. I'll guess it won't be necessary to go past that point but if noise is gone do same on first 6SK7.

i can dongle the tube with a jumper wire set..

i have a pic of it on the prior page.
this will maintain the heater yet eliminate all the other connections on the second 6sk7

sorry late reply , wife came out to look at and take the GE am / radio / clock for the house
#53

test complete on the second 6sk7

the one nearest the 6sq7

noise remains
#54

6sa7 tube dongle jumpered with heater only in the ckt

noise remains

the crackle noise level is like my vol knob is over 50% rotation,, its loud

by the way
i dongle tested each tube earlier in this post,, like last page...
the 6sq7 and 6sc7 heaters are pins 7 & 8

when i dongle each tube excluding the 50L6's & rect tube,,, the noise remains
#55

OK lemme reread the posts. This is cornfusin'.

thanks,, we can pick up tomorrow..- if anyones available

thanks everyone!
#58

the set was really cool just now.
powered up and played like nothings wrong.
inside 3minutes it all goes south.

something is getting warm and distorting the whole signal

none of my yellow replacement caps are hot to the touch

the 40ohmR gets really hot,, my temp substitute / test 50ohm 10 watt one does as well.
#59

I just confirmed when I lift the 220 K Ohm resistor that the radio is silent with volume down
#60

Also with this resistor disconnected I'm able to tune into a station but the volume must be at maximum
