Predicta Siesta scored
#1

This is hands down the nastiest TV I've encountered, but it was local and the price was right.  I wonder how many packs of smokes it took to build up that coating ?  On the bright side it seems to have preserved it well.  It's a really shame about the two cracks on the safety plastic screen.

You have to remember that when that Philco was made, the dangers of cigarettes weren't known.... so everyone smoked.

Sure, both my parents were chain smokers. I've see a lot fs sets from back then though and nothing this bad. At least it's coming off and revealing a pretty nice cabinet.

The original 17DRP4 CRT has been replaced with a 17BZP4 and it tests very good.

I can't believe how cruddy that picture tube cover was. It looked like the brown color was the original finish and was coming off  Icon_e_surprised

Alsome looks like a good product. I'll give it a try Icon_smile

Here's another example in great condition I picked up a few years back so I knew what it should look like. Can't wait to get a closer look at the insides

I'm guessing the original owner is no longer with us.

I removed the front cover for cleaning and discovered a potential problem. There is a horizontal line burned into the face of the CRT. It must have been run for some time with a collapsed vertical. Just a think bright horizontal line in other words. Just how visible that will be when an image is displayed remains to be seen. Worst case scenario, I do have a spare CRT, but they don't grow on trees and I'd rather not use it if I don't have to.

Is it tobacco tar or kitchen grease mixed with dust? I've seen plastic radios that had about the same look to them either way, except that grease is stickier, and doesn't stink as much. I have a Deforest Crosley console that was in the house of a chain smoker, the set smelled like an ash tray for the first two years that I owned it, then faded, the chassis still has an interesting patina though.

I'm not sure what it is, but it's not sticky and there is an odor of cigarettes.

Last night I took a look inside and it's in pretty good shape.
I intend to do a basic power supply recap and try to power it up and get a raster. I'll complete the cleaning too now that the the CRT "head" is off.

It's very dusty, but cleans up easily with compressed air and a damp rag.

Here's the other end with the power supply, tuner and IF.
