Value of E-818?
#1

I got a E-818-124 for free because it wasn’t working.
A small corner piece of the fiberboard back had broken off, so it wasn’t pushing the power cord against the contacts.
I just drilled a new hole and put in a screw and it works great now.

It’s not really something I am knowledgeable about or collect (I collect pocket radios), so I just want to sell it.
I looked on ebay and there were no active or completed listings for this model.
I’m guessing somewhere between $35-$50, but I wanted to make sure.

If any of you could tell me what it’s worth I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks for any help.

Hi and welcome,
Is it missing or have damaged dial scale??
Style wise it's rather plain looking. No rf stage but
odd p/p output w/25F5's.
Should be able to break even on what you've got in it.

Now I think I've got!

I have from a different maker a similar tube line up. AA5 basically with push pull, go figure. So the extra sensitivity from having a RF stage is replaced by just jacking up the output, who knows.

A better dial photo might help. You could post it in Items For Sale section and see what comes up.

Replacement value then, if I wanted to buy something similar and didn’t care about waiting for one to turn up what would I expect to pay?

The dial scale is hidden, and is only visible when turned on.

I think your estimate of 35 to 50 is a reasonable one for a working set. An E-816 recently went for $14 plus $30 shipping on ebay (a nonworking 5 tube set rather than a working 6 tube set). Mid century modern stuff seems to be popular and you might get someone who just has to have it and would pay more but I wouldn't.

My guess, and thats all it is, in an antique store they would probably have it marked at $75. At a radio swap meet...$30.

Thanks, I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t the inverted jenny of the Philco world.

By the way, I'm pretty sure that the mahogany finish on your cabinet is much like that on a Philco Predicta "Holliday" cabinet, it's a faux finish.  I don't think these have much value, usually the late 50s and 60s AC/DC radios people want have bright coloured plastic cabinets, like pink or aquamarine, with a "Jetsons" look to them.

Arran
