Philco Condenser Block Tools
#1

A lot of fellows talk about what a chore it is to re-stuff Philco condenser blocks. I never saw it as a big problem. Anyway, I decided to make a set of tools to make the job quicker and easier. The tool set consist of two tools, a wire cutting tool and a punching tool.

In most cases, there is no need disconnect the wires from the block. While the block is still bolted to the chassis, use the cutter tool to cut the wires where they pass through the rivets. One twist on each rivet will quickly and cleanly cut the wires.

Again, while the block is still bolted to the chassis, use your heat gun to heat the block. Try to concentrate the heat on the sides of the block.

Use the push tool to push the old condenser out as far as the chassis will allow (the block is still bolted to the chassis).

Remove the screw and roll the block. Then using the push tool, push the old condenser the rest of the way out of the block.

Now, clean the terminals and install new capacitor(s).

Some day, and that day may never come, I will call upon you to do a service for me. But until that day, accept this justice as a gift

...... I use a small drill to break the wires off coming out of the block. I have a small hand drill and 1/4 turn and you can feel the wire snap off.
