#1

I have a 37-610 tomestone. veneer on top needs replaced. what type of wood was the original veneer. also faux front was already stripped off. I will veneer it with walnut I think. thanks for any help. John.

Hello and welcome!

The original veneer was walnut.

The front panel photofinish can be replicated. It would be a bit of work, but would look much better than a plain face.

Stewart Schooley has a method of replicating photofinish. You can read about it here:

http://www.philcoradio.com/schooley/index.htm

And someone redid a 37-610B over on the Antique Radio Forum not too long ago...he did a really good job:

I especially recommend you read pages 2 through 5 of this thread carefully.

I disagree with the use of gold paint - he should have used a light brown instead, a lighter color than the medium walnut brown in the front panel - but otherwise, it turned out extremely well.

thanks so much for your reply. the radio I have is a rectangle not the curved sides. the top and sides are a light blond looking wood. I only have to veneer the top if I can match it. the front I will do in walnut maybe or try to duplicate the faux as close as possible. thanks again. John.
