16B find. They are YUGE!
#1

I picked up this Philco 16B today, courtesy of a local radio guy who has an extraordinary collection of antique radios.  It's been tastefully refinished, and electronically restored.  I had no idea these things were such beasts.  It must weigh 50lbs.
Sounds great, and will look great in the living room once I move some things around.

If you don't mind the question: what did you pay for it?

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

It would be embarrassing to say exactly. But i will say this.....it's nice to have a friend who has many nice radios. Icon_smile

I agree. I'd like to find a friend like this Icon_smile

If you think that is big (and it is), wait 'til you see a shouldered (early version) 116B tombstone!

Congratulations on your acquisition!

I've paid more for radios in horrible condition that needed full restoration. I'll leave it at that. Icon_smile

It has real nice tone, and the reception is quite good. I live in an area of horrendous AM reception, but it does pretty well. There are a few stations that come in quite clear. Country stations of course. lol

I have three 16. Of them two working.

Oh that's the compact model! The 1935/36 tombstone 16/116B are taller as they have 10 1/2" H speakers rather that the 8"K speaker.

I was down in the basement in my dad's

figure out what all those squiggly meant.

Now I think I've got!

Did you pull it out of the Kutztown fire pit line? After someone had harvested the veneer? Icon_lol
