All, Just started on this RCA 15X.. Outside looks pretty good..

Inside looks OK... but noticed looks like most if not all caps have been replaced.. Values do not match schematic..

Good news is all coils, output Transformer and IF's check out fine..
Other problem is the schematic I have is not that great.. Values are hard to read..
So on to Recapping and checking resistors..

It looks like someone recapped your radio back in the 1960s, that was when Sprague caps used those red and yellow labels. Believe it or not they may still be quite viable, they were starting to switch over to using either plastic film as a dielectric, or a combination of plastic film and paper by then. A guitar amp that a friend of mine has is full of caps like these, unfortunately the resistors are badly drifted off spec so the amp still needs an overahaul. However if the values are just plain wrong, such as using a .05 in place of a .01, I would go back to the factory specs.
Regards
Arran

Arran, Ok Thanks I will recap anyway.. Looks like some were not even close.. Probably only values they had at the time..
I think at lease one of the IF's was replaced as it matches the 2nd If used in a 36X or the 2nd production run of the 15X..
Has 6 leads instead of 4...

Ok powered up.. at 120 Volts reads 280 MA So all is good.. Plays well across the band.. Very sensitive little radio..
Now on to case a little GO-JO and polish and this should clean up nicely..
