ID This Silvertone Antique Windup Record Player
#1

Hi all, this old Silvertone was my grandparents, tucked away in the attic for decades. Anyone know anything about it? Year, model! It is a wind up flood model and has been overwound and spring possibly broke. Hope I have his posted in the right phorum, it's not exactly Hi-Fi or stereo.

I had an old Brunswick with a broken spring years ago.  Often they're broken near the end and if you take them apart you can make the broken piece match the end and reattach it.  By now I'm sure there are more write-ups and maybe YouTube videos.

I was successful in repairing mine and it sounded great (same size/style as yours).  The repair, was however, like wrestling with a 50' anaconda covered in black grease.  Since it was your grandparents it would be nice to repair it.  Those old 78's are fun to listen to.

Thanks John. Actually my sister is the one that has our grandparents unit. I was just curious if anyone knows anything about this. My sister isn't interested in getting it operational, she wants to have the cabinet refinished and then gasp Icon_e_surprised just use it as a side bar and store dishes in it where the records go!  Icon_evil

That looks a lot like my 1927 victor talking machine. The turn table and arm look real close the left inside of the cabinet were records are stored the same. The front outside is very different. Some were have a book covering the different model will try and find book give me a couple of days.

Ok thanks David. This is a Silvertone, don't know if it matches any other brand!
