Hello,
Just found a cool old 50-1721 in a basement. I'd love to use it. It gets a hum at high volume. It turns but no sound unless its set at high rpm so you hear chipmunks but no sound at the correct speed. Any ideas?

Hi Zeb and welcome to the Phorum,
Several thing come to mind. Would service the chassis by testing tubes and resistors replace foil/paper caps along w/ eletrolyics. This will give you a good starting point to do any further troubleshooting.
The turntable give it a mechanical cleaning and lub. Not uncommon to find deteriorating rubber parts (driving the platen) that will need replacement. Another common issue is a weak cartridge (low output) and low tracking pressure.
After 69yrs these sets aren't a plug and play unit any more.

I was down in the basement in my dad's
workshop. Perusing his Sam's Photofoacts

figure out what all those squiggly meant.

Now I think I've got!

Thank you very much... so far that is all a mystery to me so I'll start looking into how to do all that. I'd love to get it working again.
