Philco model 84 1/35

I picked up a model 84 @ Kutztown cheep and it could use some grille cloth. I don't think the pic in the gallery has the original as it's a flower pattern. So what is the closest thing that's available these days?
When my pals were reading comic books I was down in the basement in my dad's workshop. Perusing his Sam's Photofoacts Vol 1-50 admiring the old set and trying to figure out what all those squiggly meant. Circa 1966 Now I think I've got! Terry

Grille cloth #05 from radio daze is as close as I’ve found to the original in my 37-84...

You are correct, sir. I've seen that version of the 84B (second version, btw) with two different patterns of cloth. One is a diamond pattern similar to this: http://www.radiodaze.com/grille-cloth-05-item-grc05/ The other is what is commonly known as "70/90" cloth but in copper (no longer available). You are now limited to these choices (close but not exact, and gold/whiskey in color instead of copper): http://www.radiodaze.com/grille-cloth-02-item-grc02/ https://www.ebay.com/itm/183963258584 I think I would use the diamond pattern. If you get that, do note that the thin green lines should be oriented vertically (up and down), not horizontally. Good luck - and get it while you can. Radio Daze is discontinuing basically everything except reproduction graphics, so when their grille cloth is gone, it's gone and we'll have even less choices available. -- Ron Ramirez Ferdinand IN

Got any guesses on the cloth for a 660L? Missed yous guy last weekend... Hope you can make it in the spring. I hear it's right around the corner. After searching 660L images online, I have come to the conclusion that it used the Philco "Ribbed" pattern.

The 84B is looking a little better.
Added some grille cloth and veneer to the edges. The grille cloth came in from RD and this one seemed the match the original the best (pattern) color is a little too gold. May add a touch of toner to give it a little more of a copper look. Service the chassis and works good (could use some better 77's). Next is stripping and staining the patches. Since Kirk has been working the a bunch of cabinets I was inspired to get busy on the 84B. It turned out ok considering what I started with understanding that it would never look like new again. To do that it would have taken the removal of all of the veneer as much of it the edges are curling.
This time I tried Mohawk Flat clear coat and was pleasantly surprised that it does have a little sheen which is what I was looking for. With veneer issues the flat tends to hide the waviness. It's a good player but does need a long ant for any dx reception. Pleasant sounding. Was a nice improvement in the later models to add the tuning reduction drive but that doesn't happen for a yr or two later. Very nice Terry. Do you do anything with the speaker? I've been looking at these older speakers lately and it seems the outside rim of the cone where it flexes is sometimes worn. I recently tried using some flexible glue to hold the fibers and still have the ability to "go with the flow" and it sounded pretty good. Don't know how long it will last.

The speaker was in good shape. However my 41-300 the edge does have some deterioration. I'm think I'll use some thinned out fabric glue around the edge the next time I'm working on it. There is a local reconing shop so if it go horribly wrong they can set it right.
