Found—Model 40-150 in Chinese black lacquer highboy cabinet
#1

Hi. My first post to this forum. I am about to begin my first restoration on a model 40-150 I recently found on the side of the road. I'm curious to know if this cabinet style was common. I haven't seen any images of it on this site or others. Any thoughts/info/history on this would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the limited angles...shot from the back of my car.

Its not a Philco cabinet, that's for sure. I would suspect there are not many other cabinets like it.

Thanks, Bob. I'll post pics as it comes back together. Cabinet is mahogany with black lacquer. 3 legs were snapped at the top, but should be repairable. I'm looking forward to it, but more so to the radio restoration. I have a number of radios waiting for me to learn more before I start, including a 1930 Kellogg Model 524 that will be last on the list. This is a shot of the back panel to the cabinet.

Whatever it is, it is an uncommon radio and didn't become any worse from being put in this cabinet.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

Additional photos of cabinet, with number stamped on interior. Is this a cabinet number or part number?

Hello. That looks like the part # 38-9935 of the cardboard antenna back. I have a model 40-150 Philco. It is in a wood slant front cabinet.
Restored the chassis 3yrs ago. I think they have the rubber wire that is usually rotten and falling apart. Good luck with the restoration plenty help here if you need it.

Thanks, Mike. Looking forward to it!

Good job getting it back up on its feet. Icon_thumbup

I wonder if the antiquity here is NOT the radio as much as the cabinet. Maybe you should take your photos to an antique furniture specialist and see if the cabinet is rare and worth donating to a museum or ... what it's history might be?
