Very nice looking set Mike and I really like the dial, but how is the bottom half (logging) used?

John, the bottom half are spread bands for the ham frequencies, just as the second spread band dial is on a Hammarlund. In this receiver, you set the lower pointer to the "set" position, which is at the high end of each of the ham bands. Then you tune the radio so that the pointer of the top, main tuning section of the fial is at the high end of the particular ham band you wish to listen to. Then you tune down the band using the bandspread lower pointer and lower half of the dial. If you look carefully at the picture I posted at the beginning of this thread, showing the front of the radio clearly, you will see the markings on both the lower and upper half of the dial, and the two pointers, which may make my explanation clearer.
