IDENTIFICATION PT50 or TH14 ??
#1

Hi, I am new on this forum!
Found recently this one, very poor condition.
Probably PHILCO PT50 Transitone (1940) or may be TH14.(seems same line up)
If PT 50, rear coil waxed for "tropicalisation" ? and why these turns in both directions
perpendicular ?
Someone could give precisions please ?

And for building new cabinet, I am looking for a good photo of the box.

Thanks for help.

Looking at the service bulletins for both 1940 models, the schematics are the same (except for one additional cap in the TH-14. The other components have slightly different values as well, but schematic is virtually identical.
Tube complements are also the same.
The big differences are dial plates, and wood (TH-14) or bakelite (PT-50) cabinets.

So, it appears you have a chassis out of a TH-14 or TH-16, due to he dial face.

Hi Chuck, thank you for infos; I have a picture of PT50, (found on Ron's site, see below) but it is WOOD cabinet. Do you know what was the look of bakelite cabinet for this one ?
Thanks

No I don't a picture. I believe it is similar to the PT-47/PT-51, but with out the pushbuttons.

Ron can correct me here if I'm wrong.

Hello Megawave,

Just so happens I have a PT-50 cabinet. Icon_smile If you need detailed photographs and dimensions, please contact me.

I agree with Chuck that you have a TH-14 or TH-16 chassis, due to the design of the dial face.

Just for fun, here's what they look like.

TH14: http://www.philcoradio.com/gallery/1939c.htm#m

TH16: http://www.philcoradio.com/gallery/1940a.htm#bn

I find it interesting that the TH-14 was advertised as a (January) 1939 model, yet it is not in the 1939 Philco RMS Yearbook - it is in the 1940 RMS Yearbook. Icon_confused: Icon_confused

No, it's not a problem, just during certain condition it could show up. Yes, an internal tube short could do that too. ...morzh — 09:13 AM
