How Do I Disable Audio Muting Part of Magnetic Tuning?
#1

I'd like to disable the audio muting portion of the magnetic tuning feature in a model 38-3.  Can I do that by cutting one of the two wires in the attached photo? or by connecting the two wires?  I'm assuming those two wires are in the circuit.  Is that correct?

Thanks,
Larry

The contacts on the leaf switch are shorted together when you push the tuning leaver in. So, disconnecting one wire will disable the switch. On my 37, 38-116's, I like the fact that the audio is muted while tuning past a station with the auto tune.

Thanks!  I re-furbished a 38-3 for a high school classmate in PA a couple years ago.  Some of the spring-loaded plungers in the cylinder were severely stuck.  I managed to get all of them retracted.  I didn't think I could get the mechanism working properly and was afraid a plunger would get stuck in a fully depressed position and limit manual tuning.  So I made the external lever non-functional (it couldn't depress a plunger).  That seemed ok here in TX but wasn't ok in PA when I re-installed the chassis.  I had to have the lever positioned just so to keep it from muting the audio.  He was able to use manual tuning but keeping the lever positioned to not mute the audio has become a headache.  So I'll just have him cut one wire.
