Found a 38-690 today
#1

Never thought when I woke up this morning I would be a new owner of a nice condition 38-690. Decided to go to an estate sale and found this for $135, came with extra tubes and some Philco advertising. Lost $20 last night at poker with the boys but made out today.

When my pals were reading comic books
I was down in the basement in my dad's
workshop. Perusing his Sam's Photofoacts
Vol 1-50 admiring the old set and trying to
figure out what all those squiggly meant.
Circa 1966
Now I think I've got!

Why do you have to tell us about these things? It just makes the rest of us feel bad. Icon_sad No, really that was a great find! Icon_thumbup

Once you get that set up, running, and aligned, you'll have a magnificent thunder generator. You'll have power and fidelity that the other big mainline brands didn't offer.

Indeed, you made out like a bandit on the set, and can savor your luck for a long time.

Congrats!

It has three speakers. The other devices have cones, but are not speakers and do not have voice coils. As I understand it, they serve to cancel vibrations from the cabinet.

So, they're early "drone cones", sans voice & fieldcoils? My Altec 890C Bolero speakers each have a 10" speaker and a 10" "passive radiator".

You are one lucky dog! Icon_thumbup I never seem to find higher ended radios here. Seems everyone was either broke in my area during the depression or no-one wanted high end radios. Now in the county my friend lives in, it was easy to find high or at least higher ended radios at sales. Now it is a poor county, so go figure. Icon_crazy

No matter where you go, there you are.
