Interesting find on tuner
#1

I was tearing down my 39-116 for cleaning and on the tuner assembly I found what looked like someones signature.

Check it out.

I don't know if this is worth getting excited about or not but I thought it was neat. I don't think it survived the cleaned though.

You often find similar things written in pencil on the chassis, speaker, and even tube sheilds. My 37-610 console has the last date the radio was in the shop, what was done, and the techs name written in pencil on the aft portion of the RF deck. I have gotten "virgin" radios in that had the tube types written on the chassis next to where they go, both on the top and on the bottom of the chassis. An 8" speaker I have for the non shouldered 116B I have not found yet has the color code and location for the speaker wires on it. Some of my sets have a label or a stamped ink logo from either the shop that sold it or the shop that fixed it.

I just got a very nice Model 70 today and one of the really neat things about it to me is that it has 'Ward Bros. 1819 E. Anaheim, phone number, Member RTA' stamped on the back. It's also dated 'june 10, 1942' It's always fun for me to have a little history about the set.
So this set was already ten years old when it went in for service early in WW2. probably was used throughout the war as new sets were not available. I love to think about all the history it must have broadcast!

No, it's not a problem, just during certain condition it could show up. Yes, an internal tube short could do that too. ...morzh — 09:13 AM
