Philco 51-930 dial pointer what lubricant to use
#1

Hello Everyone,
I am back working on my Philco model 51-930 My big question of the Day is what type of grease should I use to lubricate the area where the pointer scale rides alone as you can see in the photo below .

my first thought was white lithium and the other grease that i have on hand is super lube and last is good old Phone lube.

So what is your thoughts ?

Sincerely Richard

i would try paste wax or silicone spray applied with a brush. grease will dry out and attract dirt. or nothing at all. is there a problem? pioneer receivers of the 70's used a plastic "shoe'' inside the pointer cavity. the dimples are the only contact areas and shouldnt develop much friction

Hello falcon,
there was grease but I cleaned it off it was a mess and gumming up the dial pointer .

have you tried it dry?

I use a very thin coat of silicone grease. Squeeze a dab on the end of a finger then wipe around the edge.

I've had good luck cleaning it really really well, then polishing the point of contact with 00 steel wool and a dremel to an almost mirror shine. Smooth as butter after that.

P.S. I can get back to working on this set since my resistor that I needed came in today !
