Hello. I have a Philco 41-629 that does not have the "Beam of Light" turntable, just a conventional one.
Did they make them both ways? Did all 41-629's have BOL and mine has been retrofitted or was it an option???
The more I look at it the more I think it has been hacked.

Hi,
All 41-629 sets were originally fitted with Beam of Light changers. If yours does not have a Beam of Light changer, then it has been replaced by someone (a common thing, really).
If you are interested in another Beam of Light changer for your 41-629, then place a "Wanted" ad in the
Wanted Ads section of this Phorum.

As Ron mentioned, it was common for the 78rpm-only changers to be "changed out" in the late 40's/early 50's when the new record formats came onto the market. Most of the younger set wanted the 45 rpm records with their vast music selection. It was much cheaper to have your local radio shop install a new changer into your existing set, than to buy a whole new unit.
