89B, v3 almost there!
#1

Here's my latest bench victim, almost done! See how the bottom shot looks totally re-worked.....NO?? That was the idea! LOL
In the shot of the top, between the transformer and the tuning cap, you can see how I re-stuffed the original filter cans. The top part of the can slips on, then when I tighten the filters down, the re-stuff is invisible. I did these as per the tech tips article about restuffing the old cans on The Philco repair bench.
If you want to try it, follow Chuck's info and VOILA!!

Great job! Can't tell anythings been done. The resistors are the tricky part. I've made up my own bed resistors but it's a bit of work. Don't really like the orange drop or yellow tubular look.

figure out what all those squiggly meant.

Now I think I've got!

Right now, I'm working to make a new set of speaker leads. I have the green and red, but not white/green, so I'm going with white. That will be the most visible of my efforts so far, until time turns the NEW leads into all straw-colored old ones again. CORRECTION: the 1/4"-long bits of shrink tubing will not show, top or bottom, but that's all you COULD see in there.
This radio had an early filter replacement. It looks to be a paper-dialectric 'condenser', beeswax, paper tube and all, but CANNOT be, because its 10mfd/450 V tells me it's NOT. It's a replacement Philco cap made just for this purpose, I betcha! And it reads .02 Ohms!!! That's the combined resistance of my test leads!! SHORTED!! WOW! You can see it to the left of the chassis in the bottom-chassis photo. I have a buddy here in Medford that will want it to restuff it, most likely. Caps are do-able but restuffing resistors are out of my league. I can't WAIT to burn it in!
Then I'll try to align it without ticking my apartment neighbors off with the sig-gen!! Icon_angel
