Philco 3650 #71 Capacitor
#1

Hello, I am working on a Canadian 3650. Doing pretty good so far. The #71 capacitor is a three section electrolytic with values of 1, 2 and 3. I am using 4.7s for all three for now as I don't have a 1 or 2 or a 3. Would it be alright to use 4.7 for all three for final replacements?

Thanks for the help.

Hi and welcome,

I've been in the same situation and have used 4.7mf in my 16 with no ill effects. They are there to decouple the audio signal out of the hv. The worst thing if they were too high in capacitance would that it would cause the amplifier to oscillate. I don't know if I would go much larger for fear of making an oscillator. I suppose if that was an issue some series resistance to the capacitors would remedy the problem.

When my pals were reading comic books
I was down in the basement in my dad's
workshop. Perusing his Sam's Photofoacts
Vol 1-50 admiring the old set and trying to
figure out what all those squiggly meant.
Circa 1966
Now I think I've got!

Thank you Terry. I haven't had any oscillations yet. Maybe I will order up some caps anyway to be safe. I have a ways to go on this radio so wait time is no big deal.
