Radiobar Model 550 Help
#1

Hello Everyone,
I am purchasing a Radiobar Model 550, and unfortunately it does not have the radio or record changer. I'm guessing it was removed at some point and they continued to use the cabinet and barset. I am hoping someone may have this model and can help me with pictures and some details about the inside of the cabinet. Both for the record player section and the radio section. My hopes is that I can find some clues about what chassis it may have had, That would help with that side. But I don't know anything about what record changer it may have used. The best I can come up with at this point is a General Industries record changer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I plan to fully restore.

I have found some Advertisements on line with this model, but its not detailed enough to rebuild the sections.

WOW Wow wowwy! That's an amazing RadioBar! Never seen one that big!

Looking in the Philco bible, the chassis they used would most likely be a 37-675. The only other chassis's to use that exact dial are the 37-116 and the 37-690, both of which have the acoustic clarifiers (plus the 37-690 was massive, with two chassis and tweeters as well) and the grill shown in the ads wouldn't allow for the clarifiers with the large speaker these chassis used.

Here's some more info:

Style 550
08/07/14 18:14
The style 550 was the largest and most expensive of the Philco Radiobars. It cost $895 and was provided with the model 116 radio (1936) or the model 37-675 the following year. It featured a record changer and bar service for twelve.

The cabinet was 49 1/4” high, 42 3/4” wide and 19 3/4” deep closed. In open position the cabinet was 66” high and 74 1/2” wide.

In one of the ads posted, it looks like it says All wave 15 tube for the model 550. Wouldn’t that make it a 37-116?

Ron, you are correct! And I think we all missed something important ...that there is a Radiobar section in the Philco Library that gives those details!

Apparently the 550 was available with either the 37-116 or 37-675 chassis.

Thank You Gents,
I think I am good on the Chassis. I hope I can figure out what it may have come with, but I think a 116, 37-675, or a 37-116 would work and be period correct. Now that record changer, that's the hard one. I think it is a General Industries Model L or Model K, but am not certain. Also need help with rebuilding the cabinet parts. Wood type and measurements/templates. If anyone has one, let me know.
