vintage flyers?
#1

Didn't they have publicity back in the 40s?

I have been trying to get my hand on either original, repro, or plain images of publicity or vintage photography with my brand new 47-1230 to display with it when restoration is done... but I have found nothing.

Oh, I have found a few publicity - Bing Crosby, some TVs, but nothing more.

Is there anything out there?

Of course they did.

Philco did a lot of advertising in national magazines and local newspapers. You just have to keep looking for the magazine ad you want.

With lots of people out there tearing up old magazines to harvest the ads from them, you will probably find a 47-1230 ad eventually.

Now if you are referring to owner's manuals, those were often tossed by the original owner, or were eventually lost.

Owner's manual would be nice, I'd keep it with the radio. The stickers inside too are missing, the one with the tube location (model number, code 121) is damaged, and I'd like to put a replacement if possible. I guess I'll have to do it myself.

But what I'd really like is any ad from the 47-1230. A repro would be perfect, its to frame and expose with the radio.

I have a real hard time finding vintage magazines, adds, or whatever. Thanks for confirming they do exist, so I keep my eyes open!

Ebay is your friend. I've found ads for two of my radios there. Make a dedicated search, request email notifications and be patient.

Even on ebay, all I find is bing crosby and a 1264. For some reason I didn't think of saving the search, thanks Icon_smile

I have been suggested to look on the google newspaper archives (I didn't know that existed, its rather cool. Although most publications are read-only and pay-for-copy)

http://news.google.com/archivesearch

I found an add for Philco 1226, 1227 and 1230 from Chicago Tribune circa 1947. There wasn't any preview, but I could purchase just the page.

With some photoshop it can be printed to look a lot like a vintage ad. Not an original, but close enough until I get my hand on a real one (if ever)

Right now I printed a 4x6 of it that I framed and placed on the radio, kinda cool.

Thought I'd share.

believe it or not best place to find magazine adds is to look through national geographics or popular science mags from your year range you can usually fine them in bunches at antique stores and u can thumb thru them and if u find an add buy it.....or garage sales........there are alot of them around..
