Hello everyone,,, I just joined this forum although I have been collecting antique radios for about five years.. I don't collect just Philcos but any radio that I like the looks of,be it tombstone, table or consoles. So far I have about 45 radios and 10 of them are consoles..
I live in Calgary Alberta where we don't have that many radios for sale and there are not too many different models. I do what I can in the area for cabinet restoration and fixing chassis. I will have many questions as time goes on,so bear with me..
I know I will get a lot of information on this forum because all of you are radio nuts..
Here is a photo of a radio that I am contemplating buying although it is 400 miles from me.. Ron said it is good radio for the price so I might make the trip It is a Philco model 91X which does not work at the moment.

Hi Dan, and welcome aboard!
I've always admired the looks of the 91X (although I've never owned one), and with nine tubes it should be a great performer. I have the 91B cathedral, and a few months ago added a 91D console with doors to my collection.
I do have a 15X (eleven tubes), and will be acquiring an early version 19X in a month or so.

Wow, 45 radios in just 5 years, that averages to 9 per year. I don't think even Ron gets that many. That's more than I've accumulated in a lifetime! I have 19 and 8 are consoles. Welcome to the forum, Dan. Know you'll enjoy it here. As Ron indicated that 91X is a nice looking set alright.

I could never figure women out. Your wife wants to get another console? She sounds like a keeper. Glad to have you with us, Dan. Does that 91X have a speaker baffle that tilts upward?

Mike;;;;;
At the moment I have not had a chance to look up much about the radio ,but I know if Ron sees this post ,,he will be quick with and answer.
Actually I have not received a reply from the seller. I did email him twice about the radio so I guess I will phone him...

Good luck with it Dan. Hope you get it. I'm not sure if it's today but I think Ron has to go out of town so that's where he may be right now. Oh wait, I recall now, he's going to Indianapolis today to pick up some radios, including a 1937 model Philco table model and he has to go to the main campus of his college so I'm sure that's what is occupying his time right now. You're right, I'm sure he'll be here with his comments today.

Actually it was Terre Haute, not Indianapolis, with a stop at the soon to be alma mater, Vincennes University. We just got back home.
Yes, the 91X has the "Inclined Sounding Board" with the speaker board tilted up at an angle.
All but the last production 91X sets will have two speakers. If I am not mistaken, the 91X models made in mid-1933, just before production of these ended, only have one speaker.
Dan, that sounds just like what my wife would do if I really wanted a console...even if we had no room for it, she would just say "We'll make room" and encourage me to get it. This is a great feeling, yes? Much better than having to hear something like "What do you want with more of that JUNK?"
So, anyway, if she wants you to make a 400 mile drive to get the 91X...obey her wishes!
