What Philco chassis is it?
#1

A friend in FL got a Philco with the chassis we cannot quite determine the model of.

The cabinet is 38-17.
The chassis is the on in the pictures.

At the first glance it did look like the 38-15, which would be correct.
However, first thing to be noticed is, the IF cans are different (two when looked from the back).
The dial is also different, but this could've been changed.
The transformer vs dial vs tuning cap etc looks very similar to 38-15.

However when looked under, instead of the band switch there is an additional potentiometer, that seems to be a tone control.
There are no abckelite blocks underneath, and the chassis has been restored before, all caps being modern yellow film ones, so....

I wonder if from the tubes vs RF cans someone could tell the model.
The electrolytics are original Philco ones, and seems to be the same, and in the same places, as in 38-12 or 38-15.

That's an easy one it's a 38-17 code 121 after someone took it apart redesign and almost put it back together. Sorry. Dead giveaway is the screws vs rivets on the tube sockets. Don't know what tubes it's sporting but not seeing a 75 and over by the pt they're look like they don't belong except the 84. Missing the 2nd IF trans too. Oh and wrong knobs.

I have a 38-17F code 124 chassis I can snap a few pics of if it would be helpful. The only difference between the code 121 and 124 is spkr size. You might be better off finding a 38-15 chassis.

Now I think I've got!

Thanks. 38-17 had 38-15 chassis except the speaker place is covered.
Good to know.
