Yes you could do that too. But why did you choose to buy these conspicuously large capacitors? 10nF Y2 caps should be about half the diameter those in your picture, unless you kept the leads long.
I never had them protrude much at all.
In fact, in my article on this, I restuffed 0.01uF Y2 caps; you could see in the pictures they are quite inside.

You’re right, yours are much smaller. I must admit that I ordered these without much regard to size. I ordered them back in August, before I had learned that the Bakelite housing could be restuffed. These are X1Y1 rated, but I’ve since learned that I can use a lesser safety rating.
These are also 0.01 μF capacitors. Likely much larger than a 10 nF capacitor. Even so, I am surprised by their size.

Its the rating. Yours are rated to 500V and the Y2 are up to 300V. Obviously that dictates smaller size.
Plus you will likely pay more for the caps with more stringent rating.
Y2 is quite enough.

Joseph, the Moyer Electronics I’m familiar with is in Pottsville, PA. Only a half hour from me. My dad used to to buy from them in the 50s, I don’t know how long they’re in business but it’s a long time. I needed an IF transformer for a 50s Philco I was working on and they didn’t have an actual OEM Philco but did have a replacement, I think it was a Meissner part.
Morning, Ron! Yep, that’s the Moyer I spoke with. They did say that they researched for any off-brand equivalents but did not find one. I figured as much. The 32-4074 is really quite strange, because the AM and FM outputs are combined. There’s only one output path, whereas most AM/FM detector coils have two switchable outputs.
Those are exact same I used before.
I just recently bought these from Mouser.

It is exact same diameter and also X1Y2.
Not sure why, but I think maybe the ones you and I used before were temporarily unavailable.
Now that I am looking at Mouser, this one I bought now is unavailable.
But I just bought 10pcs to replenish the dwindling supply.

Hello Joseph,
I would leave them they are just fine !
Man Moyer Electronics brings back old memories I did not know they were still around .
Mike that is too funny I guess we think alike .
Yes, Rich is right, they are just fine to be left in there.
Also, what I do when I re-stuff these specific ones, I kinda lead-form them, pressing against the walls so the disks, where the leads exit the circle, touch the top of the backelite block (gently so, trying not to crack the potting of the leads): this lower the profile slightly.
Plus the ferrule the screw goes through also raises the block some 3 mm or so above the chassis.
