Use of different wires in Philco
#1

Why are some of the wires cloth covered and other plastic. How about the gauge of the wires. Does it make a difference when replacing them?

With a 40 model radio you may have the dreaded rubber wiring which crumbles. If you have a mix of cloth/rubber and the rubber insulation is bad then you could option to just replace the rubber wires with cloth insulation wires that is available from Radio Daze and other vendors in various colors and gauges (stranded and non-stranded). Mostly with the rubber insulation it will be come brittle and fall off, some people will cut one end slide off the bad insulation and use strink tubing to act as insulation and resolder the disconnected end.
