Anyone recognize this radio?

This radio has no markings that indicate either who made this or sold it. I suspect it may have been made for a department store. I would like to find a schematic if possible.

The radio has six tubes and is tuned with variable inductors. It does work, though not as well as I would expect.

The tube layout label indicates this is a model 446, but no manufacturer is listed.

I’ve tried radio museum, but no applicable results were returned.

Please post a picture of the back. Look at the tubes and see what brand or brands are in the beast. David

I found only one listing for it, it is a Model 446, but of what brand, I do not know.

The link that Morzh posted shows TWO model numbers on the inside label, 446 & 147. The tube line-up is: 2-12SK7, 12SA7, 12SQ7, 35L6, and 35Z5.
I’ve not been able to locate this on the Radio Attic website. Joe

Actually the 147 is faded out and overprinted with 446, this is why I think that's the one.

So the "M" in the grille must stand for "Mystery" brand? I thought maybe it was a "Minerva", but they all look different, and I don't think that they employed permeable tuning in the front end. However between the tube lineup, and the permeable tuning, I would take a guess that the set is post war, between 1946 and 1950, there may even be date codes on the components. There were a number of what we would now call "startup" radio manufacturers that made sets for a few years, Minerva was one, Telesonic was another, some look like they were made with war surplus parts like Micamold caps, or oddball numbered tubes, but they faded away as T. V started taking off.

I thought Motorola has copyright on the letter M. Even Sesame Street has to pay a royalty. ;-p

Here is an example of a Minerva "M.

Not sure if they always used this style. Paul

I looked through Nostalgia Air for all brands with the name starting in M but could not find anything with that model number. Fortunately, the AA6 (AA5 plus a tuned RF Amp) is a rather common circuit. You can likely use the schematic for any RCA set with this tube lineup in recapping and troubleshooting the set.

Tom, Will you be posting pics of the back of the cabinet?  Joe

Joe- I wasn’t ignoring your, and other, posts. Summertime is a busy time for me and I sometimes don’t do anything with radios for a few weeks.

Regarding the picture, there is no back for this radio. If you want a rear view, I’ll shoot a pic and post it.

As far as the second model number on the label is concerned, I have the same label and that number is not helpful.

I was planning on drawing my own schematic but I might try to find an AA6 schematic and compare it to this radio.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I’ll file all the notes on this radio in the Unknown Radio Restoration file.
