40-180 buttons needed
#1

Hi all,
I'm working (slowly and painfully) on my first radio repair. I need a set of the channel pre-set buttons for a Philco 40-180. Are these readily available? If so, where would I look? Also, what is that big muffler-looking piece that sets at the bottom of the console?
Thanks,
Ryan

For the pushbuttons try Radio Daze. I just bought a set of the PB-PHIL41-W from them for my 40-150, which uses pretty much the same chassis as your 40-180. The muffler looking thing is the loop antenna.

Hi Ryan,
I bought a couple of sets of Philco pushbuttons from Antique Radio Knobs and they are very good quality:

I'm not familiar with your radio, but the thing that looks like a muffler may be the loop antenna assy., item 1 on the parts list.

There is 1 up for sale on Ebay:

Yes, that's the piece I was talking about. One end is held on just by a staple or two. How solid do they need to be to be effective?

Hi,
I bought a set from Larry at oldradioknobs a few years ago, and they are top quality. I think they are still only $15 a set. Use the wine colored ones for your set.

I looked at the link for the antenna assembly, and it had been relisted. However, it forwarded me to a Sony TV.
There really ssin't much holding them together, just be careful with it. Unlike the GE sets with the Super Beam-a-Scope, these need to be adjusted by hand.

Good luck on your set, I love my 40-180, it was my first console.
Gary.
