I finally got around to removing the chassis and speaker from my 40-180. The speaker has what looks like shreds of paper towel attached various places where dried liquid has radiated from the center. I saw the same type dried liquid on my first radio and it didn't seem to affect the sound. What am I looking at and how shoud I remove the paper?

Sounds like repairs to tears in the paper cone. I'd leave them alone.
