Hello all. I am back working on the alighnment of my 37-640. as you'll recall from earlier posts, I could not get any adjustments on the IF amp 33S and 33P so I removed that same transformer from a spare 37-620 I am using for parts and installed it in the 37-640 and it now adjusts fine when finishing the IF adsustments.
Now here is where I need help when moving on to the Tuning Range -7.3 to 22.0 MC step. I do not see any meter movement while adjusting 23B, 8B and 4B in that first step.
I still have the meter connected to pin 3 (plate) and pin 8 (cathode) of the 6F6G tube per the instuctions.
I have the sig gen positive lead connected to the antenna terminal marked (red) which I beleive is number 1 and the ground lead is connected to antenna terminal 3. I have the strap across terminals 2 and 3. and nothing on ternimal 4.
Question#1 What setting and effect should the volume control be on the receiver
Question #2 Can someone explain what is meant where is says to connect a venier tuner of 350ppf across the oscillator section of the tuning condenser. Does this mean I need a separte tuner?
Thanks so much for any help, John

#2. it says:
"Connect a VARIABLE CONDENSER of 350 mmF (not ppF, the industry does not and did not make this kind of condensers) having a good vernier (not venier)".
Now what it means is, you need a separate tuning capacitor of the said range, with a vernier (a gear that allows very small adjustment).
So, yes, if you want to align it the way they suggest, you need it.

What could be the cause of no meter movement on to the Tuning Range -7.3 to 22.0 MC step while adjusting 23B, 8B and 4B in that first step.
I do not have access to a tuning capacitor that you describe. Would a 350 mmf capacitor work?

Can someone else address the rest of the questions I have listed in my longer above post?

350pF cap (which is what they mean in todays terms), as a solid cap, won't work. You need a tuning cap, that is 0pF (OK, it will likely be 1-2pF) to 300-something pF.
The whole idea is in having an extra tuning cap.
Possibly you could use a tuning cap with a vernier coupling from any other Philco radio.
As for the volum ctl, if you mean duting the alignment, most procedures recommend it at maximum position, with the possible minimum of the RF input signal. (not that I always follow it)

Thanks for the reply. I will try to see if I can use the tuning cap from the 37-620 I am using for parts.
