Hello Mike,
Thanks for the support !

Hi Tim,

Sorry about that horizontal burn on an otherwise good CRT. Based on how rare old CRTs are now, if you replace it, save it. For some folks, it would be better than nothing.

One of these days, I have to round up some CRTs I am not going to use, including a 17" 70 (0r 90, I can't remember) degree aluminized tube that I pulled out of a TV as a kid, and a rebuilt 21" metal B/W tube out of a 1954 RCA. (All these sets I couldn't fix because I couldn't afford the schematics, and now, you can get them free on the internet!!) I also have a 25" tube from an RCA color set, and a complete RCA color set with a 25 "V" CRT. I will have to dig them out, get the numbers off them and offer them up for sale or giveaway. I can't bring myself to trashing them.

Hello MrFixxr,
I used to visit my public library to get a copy of the Howard Sams!
Today, I replaced three more capacitors. One of them was a 0.068 μF, and used two 0.033 μF capacitors to get 0.066 μF.  .
Anyway, I have a question: C67 in the schematic below shows 0.039 uF, but I have some 0.033 uF capacitors. Since this is in the boost line, I’m wondering if a 630-volt capacitor would be good enough. Tomorrow, I’ll be putting the set back together so nothing gets lost or broken, as December will be the next time I can work on it.

Sincerely Richard

Hmmm...

The boost voltage on this set may be quite high. Is it listed on the schematic? If it is as high as 600V, either try to get a 1KV cap or consider putting two 0.068 uF caps in series. These may have to be bridged with resistors to ensure equal voltage distribution. The picture of the schematic in your post does not show that section of the schematic, it shows the tuner input to the video stage.

Hope this helps!

Hello Mr Fixxr,
Yes, it was late and I posted the wrong Schematic

Rich;
I think that it is a filter cap for the boost voltage, but I'm guessing that the capacity must be somewhat important as they have 10% marked next to it. I agree with Mr Fix, I would try to find at least a 1 Kv cap, or double up some 630 Volt ones, I don't think that equalizing resistors would be needed on such a small value. Maybe one of those ones for a scope, or an electrostatic TV would work?

Hello Arran,
I am going to order a .039ufd 1kv

Hi Richard,

That may delay your restoration, but that is the best tack to take. The 580V is after a 68K resistor, tje cap is on the supply side of the resistor and the voltage on that side of the resistor is not listed.

Hello Mr Fixxr,
Since I’m waiting for parts to work on the set and won’t be able to do so until December, I went ahead and put it back together last night so it wouldn’t get damaged.

The fun and games are over as my vacation ends, and it’s back to work on Monday for another fun-filled year with the students at the school.

My two projects when get home are Pioneer Amplifier and 1989 Sony Discman.

Yeah, I think I'd go with the higher voltage so as not to hear that "ka-pow" while watching Barney trying to get his gun out of his holster and wondering what just happened!
