Mershon Caps
#1

I got the copper Mershon's for my 71 today and I am trying to get the top caps to come off. I tried the screwdriver as suggested on Philco repair bench all thats getting me is a jacked up lip on the top cap. I tried to heat it a little still nothing.

Any other suggestions?

Could you post the measurements on those things before you take them apart?

Try heat and WD-40 or other similar penetrating oil. Heat the end of the mershon and then spray on the joint.

Sure thing.

From the top of the cap to where the copper housng ends is 4 5/16", the over all length to the end of the stud at the bottom is 5 1/8", and the diameter is 1 3/8".

TA, ill give your idea a shot tomorrow. I have one of then im the freezer for the night, might try to run my little tourch around the cap while the body is cold maybe the cap will swell enough to come loose.

Just make sure that if you have to clamp those condensers in the vice to remove the top that you rap them with a rag or pad the jaws with something first so you don't chew them up.
