Antenna, Cowl
#1

Icon_confused: Anyone have an ad/photo/lit that shows a side cowl mounted antenna offered in 1933 or earlier.

Yrs back i restored a 1933 Chry. Phaeton that had 2 factory holes in the bodies structural wood that would be perfect for an antenna mount. At the time i talked to another guy restoring the same car and his had the same 2 holes. I know the closed cars had the roof/chicken wire antenna and there were the under running board but did some of the open cars get a side cowl.

Maybe the Antenna shown on this car

is factory. Photo was taken in the 50s.

The wip type antenna came out in the late 30's offen the running board antenna was used on open cars and steel top bodies, 1937 Buick used this type of antenna, 33-35
Ford open cars used the rear mounted spare tire as an antenna on open cars, 37 Cord ,being front wheel drive, had an antenna where the drive shaft would go on rear wheel drive cars. I have in structions from the early 30's on installing antenna in the roof of open cars! Reception would not be too good with the top down!

Could your holes in the cowl be for a side mount spare? ,The earlest car I know with the wipe antenna is the 37 Ford ,mounted in the center of the just above the windshield ,it was small and required an antenna transformer, that was mounted inside under the head liner above the windshield

Renovated Radios do carry what you need. As for the voltage, a wire should be at least 300V-rated.morzh — 11:13 PM
