Philco 38-7Cs Identify these parts
#1

This is my first Philco Project. What are these parts? I have not seen in other radios.

I'll take a shot at it.

The two square (ish) deals are called compinsators on the parts diagram # 7 and 7A on the parts list probably trimmer caps. The round doo dad is a mystery to me I dont see it on the diagram but it sort of resembles an bias battery is some radios. Could also be a cap since one side goes to chassis.

On the cut out of the schematic you see part 7 and 7A which are those timmer caps on the right side of your pic.

Here are some photos of my chassis. I don't have that round doodad. Perhaps it's a wavetrap ?

There were a lot of changes on these radios. I didnt read through them they might have just elimated the doo hicky on later production runs..

Crap. The round deal is not a part 8 the 3500uuf cap that cap in mounted in front of the wafer switch.

My guess #2 or is it 3 whatever is that the round deal is a thermal compensator which I do not see listed on the parts diagram or parts list. In the changes for the set it states that in Run # 3 a new thermal compensator was connected in parallel with compensator # 7A and mounted near resistor #12. The the round doodad is mounted right next to the power resistor #12 in the original photos.

On the right side of your top photo the taller compensator is 7A and has the round thermal compensator in parallel with it, and the other compensator is #7 on the schematic.

List of Changes from Riders: Read the Run 3 details.

Then the thermal compensator was replaced with two fixed caps in run 4.

Is this like an appendix for radio, or a filter for long obsolete LF radio beacons? Keeps coming up every month.

Thanks, I just received some tubes for this chassis tonight and I expect to start working on it soon.
