No, I'm in Northern California.
Thanks for all your help....You actually found the problem! I appreciate it.

Great to hear it's working as it should.

ps one more down a million more to go!

Your right, I'm already looking at another one... I'm waiting to hear back from the guy... I think I got the bug!

Hi Jack,
I'm trying to catch up on a few posts.
Just curious, when you changed all the caps, you did rebuild the bakelite blocks too, right?
Glad the set is working ok.
#20

Yes, I did change the 2 caps inside the block,
I'm not 100 satisfied with the sound, still trying to get rid of a slight distortion,
I just ordered a 84 tube, since I couldn't check here in Redding.
No one seems to have a tube tester... And I don't have one.
If that doesn't fix it, I'm going to recheck all the caps against the schematic as well as the resistors...
I'm now working on a G.E F86 - just got it done today and sounds and works great.
This one is a keeper... Thanks

Hi Jack,
I had thought there were more blocks than the line filter, so that's great.

If you haven''t already, you might want to verify all ground tie points are secure and have no resistance. Often a lug may be riveted to the chassis and they have been known to get a couple of Ohms resistance in them over the years. The last one looked good, although it had about 1.5 Ohms between the chassis and lug.
Perhaps this isn't the cure to your distortion, but at least you will eliminate that possibility.
Good luck!
#22

Thanks,
I'll see if the 84 tube makes any diffrence, if it doesn't, I'll dig in some more... should be here by the end of the week..
When you say the lug, what is the lug...?
#23

You might say terminal. Sometimes ground connection are made with a terminal that is riveted to the chassis. These can develop problems after 50-60 years. Like Gary sez.

I'm still confused, when you say terminal, your saying a ground terminal on the chassis?
So I'm to check between the chassis and any grounded type terminal?
Sorry, I'm a little slow... and unexperienced. Icon_cry Icon_cry

Yes any of the terminal that is riveted to the chassis.
