Sounds like you know what you're doing. Very nice set. I now replace all the small carbon resistors and pilot lamps while doing a recap job - cheap, easy, and eliminates many points of future failure. Makes a big difference when touching up the alignment.

Henry, that set's finish is pretty nice!!! Just make it electronically sound and enjoy!!!

There is a fellow on You Tube (Lockmeister is his handle) that restores one of these, I don't remember whether it was the five or the four band version but search for his videos on restoring one of these. One thing that goes out sometimes, in addition to the usual capacitors and carbon resistors, is the coil for the shadowgraph. They also have an audio interstage transformer which can go open, but this is something that can happen with any set employing a push pull output stage, so check the continuity on both windings, especially the primary. I've worked on a 116 but not a 16, and the restoration is definately a lot more involved then your typical five or six tuber.

I have a 16B this is one the best radios I have...5 bands. Shadowgraph doesn't work but boy does it receive. I refinished the cabinet and it turned out beautiful.

Icon_thumbup +1.

Henry has one of the better Zenith Collections out there, in addition to several other VERY nice sets. Plus he has a large collection of "Plastic Radios" of which I know nothing. He's a pretty good picker- among other things he has found two Waltons sets in the past year.

Sooo... it is great to see him with this Philco!!! Maybe it's the start of something good?

Oh yes, Henry, if you DO want to sell your 816K, I DO know someone who will buy it from you......

Thats a nice 16B. I'd leave the cabinet as is Icon_thumbup
