Good bye 24 consoles and chairsides
#1

A fellow drove to my home this past Sunday from many states away and picked up 21 consoles and 3 chairside from me.
No Philcos were harmed nor given away in this action Icon_biggrinIcon_biggrinIcon_biggrin

I now have a new back room ready for newly acquired radios !! Space can set you free.

Nice collection of firewood.
I have a few of those myself.
What did you get for that RCA 816k?
I love those.I have one I restored last year.What a monster.
Got 4 consoles for sale now and can't get a bite.No one wants to travel to pick up consoles.
I suppose I could part them out and get twice what I am asking for them.
Take care,
murf

Congratulations, Bruce! It feels good to make room for more 'treasures," doesn't it? Icon_thumbup

Bruce,

Was one of those a Majestic 92?

I might be thinning out some more consoles myself after getting the arcade games moved. Not touching my Philco collection, but I might sell of others that are always sitting and collecting dust.

No matter where you go, there you are.

Keep us posted. You know anything you pat with will go to a loving home, and nobody wants to leave you out of the money not counting labor of course.

I can't fault you for getting rid of the Zeniths, and the low end consoles, but why get rid of the Stromberg Carlson "Skyscraper", the Motorolla, and the RCA 816K? Duplicates? That G.E console looks like a nice one as well, not really as flashy compared to many other late 30s sets but likely a good performer. By the way, what is that set with the slide rule dial and the Zenith Zepher style speaker grille second from the end in the first picture?

That was a nice 12 tube Howard 518 console. I never even plugged it in in 7 years of owning it. Keep an eye on ebay. It will be showing up there soon.

Here are the 1st 5 of the 24 sets I gave up, on ebay:

I see, the Stromberg Carson Sky Scraper has the wrong record changer in it and the glass is cracked. Nothing personal but I really don't like the refinishing job a lot of these sets received now that there are some close up photos. This isn't to say that they aren't nice sets worth having but it looks like someone used satin laquer or varnish on the cabinets and painted the trim work rather then using tone spray.
Regards
Arran
